DAY ONE—USING WATER AS A SOLVENT
- Prepare a botanical infusion
- How to distil a seasonal hydrosol: harvesting, applications, pH, storage, filtering, and closed sterile distillations.
- Break for Lunch
- How to distil a seasonal essential oil: suitable plant types, harvesting, preparations,distillation technique, separation, storage, and applications
- Distil an NZ native in a stainless still
- Decoctions, sherbets, and cordials: prepare botanical bitters using water as a solvent
- Walk in the garden, plant identification.
Sunday 15th Oct
DAY TWO—USING ALCOHOL AS A SOLVENT
- Turn a wine or fruit ferment into a clear spirit
- Prepare a botanical tincture: suitable plants and herbs and applications
- Maceration and filtering techniques
- Prepare plant waxes for perfume or body care
- Break for Lunch
- Vapour infusions: blend botanicals for a vapour infused gin using traditional gin botanicals and seasonal aromatics
- Create your own gin or zero abv cocktail.
All teaching notes about techniques and processes demonstrated will be provided to participants at the beginning of each day along with a list of other resources. Sample bottles of everything prepared during the Masterclass will also be available to take home!
