Description
Following the sell out of our two-day weekend workshop (23/24 Sept) we have put together another day of learning and enjoyment at Glenmore House.
This one day stand-alone workshops is on Tuesday 26th September, and will cover the processes of hydro and steam distillation to create our own hydrosol and essential oil, and discuss the uses for the aromatics we produce. Together we will make a hydrogel and a balm from our day’s distillations, and discuss the hygiene, storage and longevity of our products.
Glenmore House is a beautiful country property on the edge of Sydney with lovingly restored farm buildings and extensive, bountiful gardens. Each day starts at 10am with morning tea, then we head to the gardens to gather fresh materials for our workshops. After the first workshop session in the Dairy, we break for an evocative lunch with Sivine and Karima of Sunday Kitchen at the long-tables in the Loggia, followed by an afternoon session to end the day.
Tickets
- Cost is $420 for the day (includes morning & afternoon workshops, morning tea and lunch).

Workshop schedule
Tuesday 26th September 10am–4.30pm
- How to distil local plants (both native and non-native) for hydrosol and essential oil using our traditional copper alembics stills. Includes harvesting, applications, pH, storage, filtering, and closed sterile distillations.
- Morning session: A hands-on distillation of a hydrosol where we ’recreate the garden in a still’ using a selection of botanicals chosen and harvested from Glenmore’s grounds. Using a ‘combo distillation technique’ (with both water and steam) to layer the aromatics in the still, creating a multifaceted, fragrant hydrosol that’s a snapshot of time and place.
- How to prepare a soothing hydrogel. We’ll create a silky, hydrating serum out of all natural ingredients.
- Break for lunch.
- Afternoon session: A hands-on distillation of essential oil, using a seasonal botanical harvested in Glenmore gardens. Including discussions about suitable plant types, harvesting, preparations, distillation techniques, separation, storage, and applications.
- How to make a soothing balm with the products of today’s distillations.
