Join us at our beautiful Lab on Waiheke Island for a day of aromatic extraction and hands-on formulating. Follow the journey from botanical to bottle, as we introduce you to the processes of hydro and steam distilling on traditional copper stills, and show you how we use these aromatic products in botanical skincare.

Perfect for anyone who wants to produce their own aromatic products, or anyone curious about the alchemy of the distillation process.

These are small-group workshops held in our own Lab, where you will get hands-on distilling and blending experience.

Description

Designed for beginners, this day is a fantastic introduction to aromatic distilling and formulating.

We’ll spend the morning with the stills, distilling hydrosol and essential oil. In the afternoon we’ll show you how to use these products to formulate simple and nourishing botanical skincare.

During our interactive demonstrations, you will gain hands-on distilling experience and learn through touch, taste, and smell.

**All participants will also receive one free online Foundation Distillation Course of their choice (valued at $175). All our online courses come with lifetime access, so you can refer back to them whenever you need, making them a great learning resource.

About our Day
This session runs Saturday 10am–4pm

  • On arrival, enjoy a botanical infusion and a walk-through our production garden, as we identify, select and harvest seasonal botanicals for our day.
  • Together we’ll prepare and pack the botanicals and set the stills running for our two distillations.
  • First, a hydro distillation in our copper cask hood still.
  • The second, a steam distillation in our copper alembic column still.
  • Using the lab’s hydrosol collection, we’ll blend a delicious zero ABV botanical cocktail for a pre-lunch drink.
  • BREAK FOR LUNCH
  • Using the hydrosol and essential oil from the morning’s distillations, we’ll formulate two different skincare products.
  • Lotions: How to make a velvety moisturising lotion.
  • Serums: How to make a soothing hydrogel.

And of course, you’ll get to take home samples of everything we make in our workshops.

Getting here: Ferries depart from downtown Auckland, and take approximately 45 minutes. If you are not staying on the island, we recommend an 8am ferry to arrive in plenty of time.
